r/AITA 1 hr. agoburneracc146377382 hi mobbit! this might need some context. essentially my (13m) dad (48m) was arrested for... some serious stuff that i wont go into for privacy reasons, but recently i saw him during a visit and found out that he is planning on finalizing his divorce with my mom. more than that, when i came in i saw him... flirt with the guy who detained him? i cant say what his job is exactly (again for privacy reasons) but essentially he controls my dad's visit times and is like his personal guard. it was really messed up. once he left to give us some space, i asked my dad what the hell was happening, and he implied that he was... seeing... this guy? repeatedly? in prison? i'm still really confused honestly. he also mentioned hosting a coming out party? which is cool, i accept him, but after that we got into an argument and i called him a weirdo (not because theyre both guys) and it ended up getting heated enough that i was escorted out. i don't know when i'll be able to see him again because he might have gotten his access to visitors taken away. i feel really bad about it but i just don't know what to think. so... aita? |

what the... okay, i might be biased here, because this is really similar to if not exactly whats going on with my uncle, but NTA. my uncle is also in a relationship with someone like that and it just isnt right! its not your fault that hes unable to see that and doesnt want to listen to his sons concerns. you have every right to think its weird, especially since your parents just got divorced. that doesnt make you an asshole imo.
its also crazy that you mentioned a coming out party because my uncle is hosting one soon???? this is really weird lol. anyway, i really hope youre able to have a civil conversation with your dad about this eventually. |

thats... a really odd coincidence, haha! i'm glad someone knows what i'm going through at least. its a little different because he's my dad, but it's been really confusing. i feel kind of bad about what happened because he didn't deserve to be yelled at like that but we've had kind of a rough relationship and i ended up saying a lot of stuff i regret. their relationship really concerns me though... i don't think anyone deserves to be partners with my dad, but also, the guy hes seeing literally put him in prison to begin with?  ? i don't know. theres a reason why my mom wanted to divorce him, yk?
i don't even know if that coming out party is still happening, i didn't know they held those in prison to begin with? really weird, i hope you're able to figure stuff out with your uncle.

yeah i get that, im sorry that your relationship with your dad is rough, that really sucks :( you obviously care about him a lot so i really really hope things get sorted out soon. i wish i had better advice to give you other than to try to talk to him soon if you can. maybe your mom could help you figure out what to say to him? i dunno, it might help talking to someone you trust about it.
and thank you, ive kept in touch with him for a bit but i havent brought any of my concerns up to him yet. hes in prison as well and im also confused about this party he plans on hosting?? i wonder if this is just a thing now?? the invitation i got said its happening REALLY soon which confuses me even more because he like, just got out of the hospital, its really weird. i cant get over how similar your dad is to my uncle its making me lose my mind

well the thing is that he's already been kicked out of the american government (i dont live in the US) and i cant imagine it would be ideal that he gets thrown into the same prison, you know |
